On the 3-6 hour tour, the guide provides in-depth information about the local geographical features of Pino Hachado, the flora and fauna as well as the general history of the place. The horses are surefooted on the terrain and lead riders safely through the mountains. Each season offers its own unique landscape and is a prime opportunity to take stunning photos of the area. Snacks and riding equipment, as well as chaps and ponchos are included.
No riding experience is necessary for this tour
After a night spent in the cabins at Horses and Huskies, we set off riding between 5-7 hours a day with a rest for lunch. The first day we will climb the Tres Hermanas mountains and head into the green and lush ‘Mallines’. After crossing Mallin Chileno, we ride over a pass at 1900m above sea level, arriving into the next valley Litran where we’ll find a place to camp our first night in a forest of Lenga trees.
The following day takes riders up and over the Meseta del Arco, the highest part of the Andes where the border meets between Argentina and Chile and down into the following valley el Paso del Arco. With large areas of volcanic sand, it’s a great opportunity to have a gallop before arriving at the next wild campsite alongside a mountain lake. Here the horses and riders can enjoy a swim and appreciate the remoteness.
The final day, upon leaving the idyllic campsite, riders enjoy spectacular views of Aluminé and Moquehue lakes upon which its shores lies the remote village Villa Pehuenia. Riders will summit the dead volcano Batea Mahuida, and from its 2000m peak, riders can see their entire journey and contemplate the vast distance they’ve covered, before descending down towards Icalma where a transfer will take guests back to Horses and Huskies to enjoy an asado (Argentine BBQ) and a night in a rustic cabin.
This tour starts similarly to the 3-day tour, except after the second night, riders discover another area around the mountain Pinihue and will find a lake exactly on the border between Chile and Argentina, and with a characteristic ‘hito’ (border marker). We continue our journey following the line between Argentina and Chile and find more markers along the way until we climb again onto the Meseta del Arco where we’ll spend our last night camping. The last day, (weather dependent) riders return to Horses and Huskies over the Meseta del Arco with incredible panoramic views, or take a route lower in altitude out of the wind and through forests of Araucarias (Monkey Puzzles). The last night is spent enjoying a traditional Argentine asado and a night in a rustic cabin.
This 5-day tour starts and begins like the previous tour of 4 days, except we take an extra day and a half, and after the second night camping next to the idyllic and remote lake, we ride down to the small town of Villa Pehuenia, which sits on the shore of Aluminé Lake. After lunch in the town and re-stocking provisions for both humans and horses, the tour takes riders along the coast and later up to the volcano Batea Mahuida. This night is spent close to the Batea Lake next to an hito (border marker). We continue our journey following the line between Argentina and Chile and find more border markers along the way until we climb again onto the Meseta del Arco where we’ll spend our last night camping.
